The Housemaid Is Juicy, Twisted, and So Worth It

I’m in town for a bit, so I decided to watch a new film with my mom. We’re both film buffs, she’s actually the reason I love movies as much as I do.

Growing up, every Friday we’d go to Blockbuster and rent movies for the weekend. That was our thing. No beach days, no theme parks, no partying… just movies. A family of hermits.

This time, it was my turn to pick, and I chose The Housemaid. I’ve been wanting to watch it for a while.

I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Sydney Sweeney, mostly because of her political views, but I’ve learned to separate the art from the artist in some cases and to a certain extent. You know, It just depends… And in this case, I’m glad I did.

This movie was actually really good.

I’ve seen some hate and criticism around it and I get it. For some people, it’s really hard to disconnect the performance from the person behind it. But if you can get past that, there’s a lot to love and appreciate here.

The concept felt fresh, not something that’s been recycled a hundred times. The tension builds in a way that keeps you locked in, and just when you think you understand where it’s going… it flips.

The plot twist? Insane.

And the ending? Honestly, perfect. One of those endings that are deeply satisfying and lands exactly where it needs to.

It reminded me why I love movies in the first place. That feeling of being completely pulled into a story and then sitting there afterward like… damn.

The Housemaid is about a woman named Millie who just got out of jail and is trying to get her life back on track. She lands a job working as a housemaid for this wealthy couple and their kid, and ends up living in this insane, beautifully designed house.

On the surface, it looks like the wife is completely unhinged, like actually batshit crazy, and the husband? He’s this calm, soft-spoken, ridiculously attractive, and somehow still holding everything together.

The kind of man that makes you go, wait… what are you doing with her? Obviously, Millie thinks the same thing.

And of course, she falls for him. Fast. Honestly, it feels like it was mutual from the jump. It was love at first sight for both of them.

Yeah he is married, but even all of the women around town are like, “poor guy,” because he comes off so loyal, so patient, just dealing with this cold, mean and chaotic wife. What a waste right?

But yeah… I’m not going to say too much.

Just know nothing is what it seems. At all.

Also, I’ll be fair, there were a few plot holes or little things that didn’t fully make sense, but honestly? Not many. And for a film like this, that’s pretty solid.

I usually get stuck on stuff like that, and it takes me out of the experience. There used to be a website back in the day called Nitpicky that I would obsessively visit. It basically broke down every plot hole in movies and TV episodes… but honestly, I’m glad it’s gone.

I’m a retired nitpicker. I just want to have fun when I watch movies now. Back when I was an aspiring filmmaker, it made more sense to analyze and study everything.

Still, this movie was juicy. Like, the kind of drama that pulls you in and then keeps flipping things on you just when you think you’ve figured it out.

I’ll give it a 7/10, mostly for how original it felt and the direction it takes. Because trust me… it goes there.
