My Thoughts on Netflix’s One Day

One Day on Netflix is about Emma and Dexter, two people who meet on the night of their college graduation and end up staying connected over many years.

Each episode follows them on the same date, July 15, showing where they are in life, how they have changed, and how their relationship keeps shifting over time.

Sometimes they are close, sometimes they are distant, and sometimes the timing is just completely off.

I’ll be honest, One Day felt a little slow at first. It took me a few episodes to really get into it, but once I did, I understood why the show was moving that way.

It was not trying to rush the love story. It was slowly showing how Emma and Dexter’s relationship grew over time.

Because I love British comedy, I also thought the show was pretty funny. The humor was dry, awkward, and very real.

It was not the kind of comedy where every scene is trying too hard to be funny. It was more in the little comments, the uncomfortable moments, and the way the characters talked to each other.

Also, the soundtrack was amazing. It fit the whole mood of the show so well and made the different time periods feel more real.

The music added so much emotion without making it feel cheesy, and by the end, it made everything hit even harder.

What I really liked about this show is how well it developed Emma and Dexter’s relationship. Their connection did not feel random. You could actually see why they kept coming back to each other, even when the timing was bad or life got messy.

I related to Emma a lot. She was funny, awkward, a little rude, emotional, and blunt.

One of my favorite parts was when she said something about how there is nothing sexier than talking when Dexter just wanted to have a one night stand.

I loved that because it showed that she was not just some brainless body obsessed with getting male attention. She wanted real conversation.

She wanted depth. She wanted to connect with someone mentally and emotionally.

And I think that is what made her so different and refreshing for Dexter…

Dexter was used to women wanting him because he was charming, good-looking, and fun. But Emma was different. She liked him, but she also challenged him.

She did not just worship him or act impressed by everything he did. She talked to him like a real person, stimulated his brain, and I think that is part of why he could never fully let her go.

Their relationship was beautiful, but also frustrating. You could tell they cared about each other deeply, but they were not always ready for each other at the same time.

Sometimes Dexter was too immature. Sometimes Emma was guarded. Sometimes life just got in the way.

That is what made the ending hurt so much. The show spent so much time building their relationship that by the time they finally got to a good place, it felt real.

It felt earned. So when everything happened at the end, it honestly broke me.

I cried like a baby.

One Day may start off slow, but by the end, you understand why. The slow pace makes you feel like you actually watched these two people grow up, make mistakes, change, and keep finding their way back to each other.

It is not just a love story. It is about timing, friendship, growing up, missed chances, and how some people can stay with you for years, even when life keeps pulling you in different directions.
